NEW STATE GOP FILES FIRST FEC REPORT
The State GOP has filed its FEC report covering April 1, 2025, through June 30, 2025. It is clear they have a serious financial crisis on their hands—only four months into Brita’s tenure as Chair.
The party is OUT OF MONEY already!
- Current cash on hand: $84,531
- Debt owed to the Chair’s long-time, personal attorney (Klenda): $104,813
- Net negative balance: -$20,282
Deficit spending is not uncommon for Brita. She reportedly did the same when she was treasurer in Routt County.
A few concerns to highlight after review of the FEC filing:
- Receipts:
- The reported receipts include three one-time, maximum donations of $10,000 each, totaling $30,000.
- With these three individuals’ max donations, total fundraising under Brita’s leadership for April–June was $75,950 (averaging $25,316 per month).
- Excluding these one-time donations, the recurring monthly fundraising drops significantly to $45,950 for the time period—about $15,316 per month.
Given these numbers, it is unclear how the Chair intends to sustain the $2.4 million budget that she presented and ultimately had approved in June—especially given that it initially failed to pass and only succeeded after a member was persuaded to change their vote to support it during what was considered by many to be an illegal re-vote.
- Legal Fees:
- The Chair’s personal (now State GOP) lawyer (Klenda)was paid $10,000 during this period, but there remains an outstanding balance of $104,813—bringing the total legal fees billed for just three months to $114,813 (averaging $38,271 per month).
- This amount appears excessive. The SEC and SCC should request an itemized, hourly breakdown of these charges. What exactly is the State GOP paying Brita’s lawyer to do? Is it to fight the lawsuit that was brought against her (and the rest of the coup) to recover legal fees the party incurred last year? If that is the case, the party is now paying for Brita’s PERSONAL legal fees!
It is all our responsibility to ensure fiscal oversight and transparency of our current leadership team, especially given the gap between current revenue and the proposed budget.
